Are You Brave?

If you have emotional strength when facing extraordinary circumstances, you are brave. Bravery is defined as the courage to face fear, failure, and rejection. It is the moral quality of standing up for your beliefs and acting despite your doubts.

Psychologists define braveness as the ability to bounce back after trauma or as the self-conscious decision to face challenging emotions with mindfulness and self-compassion.

In a philosophical sense, you are brave if you don’t fear being afraid. On a deeper level, courage is not the absence of terror; it is the acceptance of it.

With that being said, the test of courage on this page reveals how brave you are in both psychological and philosophical aspects. If you doubt your gallantry, just dare to take this quiz.

Signs You’re a Courageous Person

While it’s difficult to measure one’s virtues, concepts like bravery have universally accepted qualities that could reveal if a person is courageous.

Here are eight signs you are actually brave:

  • You don’t run away from your fears. You face them.
  • You stand up for what you believe in.
  • You don’t tolerate injustice or wrongdoing.
  • You acknowledge your mistakes and improve upon them.
  • Failure doesn’t hold you back; it motivates you.
  • You protect and help those in need.
  • You’re not afraid to ask for help.
  • You don’t see vulnerability as a weakness.

Do You Have to Be Brave?

While courage is a positive virtue in most cultures, it’s never a must. What’s crucial for us humans is the constant strive to become brave—even though we’re doomed to fail.

As mortal beings, we need to be prepared for the bad and for the unknown. And there’s no way to be so without emotional strength, without bravery.

It’s okay to fear. But it’s not okay to let it win over your life. It’s okay to feel incompetent and inadequate. But it’s not okay to quit.

“Brave” Vs. “Fearless:” Which One’s Better?

Although synonyms, brave and fearless refer to different concepts. While bravery means acting against fear, fearlessness signifies the absence of fear. The former is a moral virtue, while the latter is recklessness.

Remember, the line between bravery and stupidity is thin. As Aristotle once said, “Courage is a mean with regard to fear and confidence. It is possible to fail in many ways, by being reckless and by being cowardly.”
