So, in case no one has ever told you this, you—like everyone else—have a Shopkin counterpart. Even if you have no idea what a Shopkin is, you still have a cute, little grocery store item doppelganger out there. Let me explain.
If you’re a Gen Zed and you’re also an American (or Australian), it’s unlikely that you haven’t heard of Shopkins. But for those unfamiliar, it’s basically a line of toys that resembled grocery store items, except these store items were all personified. So, think of them as Funko Pop! figures but for grocery store stuff like vegetables, fruits, cleaning products, or cosmetics.
What gave Shopkins their unique personalities, though, was the animated series and the animated trilogy movies that were released on DVDs. (Yeah, there was a time when DVDs were a thing, and I’m pretty sure some of you are like, WTF is that?) In the movies and the animated series, Shopkins showed their lovely personalities, making them more relatable for kids and possibly even avid adult collectors.
Now, the sad thing about Shopkins is that they are no longer being produced. The Australian company behind these toys, Moose, announced in 2023 that it would no longer release new Shopkins and that the seventeenth season of its world-famous toy collectible lineup would mark its last release. (Heartbreaking, I know.)
So, we were thinking maybe creating a Shopkins Personality Quiz is an ideal way to both celebrate and remember these nostalgic toys. I was only 13 years old when Shopkins became a thing and 23 when they stopped making them! Gosh, that makes me feel old.
